Shortia

Shortia galacifolia

Family Diapensiaceae

 

 

Brief Description: The leaves are orbicular to broadly elliptic or subcordate; shiny and 1-3 inches in length. The flowers nodding with a white corolla which is rarely pink or blue; 0.5-1 inch on reddish stems.

Blooms from March to April.

Geographic Range: From Virginia to South Carolina and Georgia.

Habitat: Shady banks along streams, and in moist, wooded ravines

Garden Use: An early blooming ornamental with lovely flowers and interesting foliage.
